This article discusses the controversy surrounding Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's recent immigration webinar and the potential implications for free speech, as highlighted by Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley.
On Monday, Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley criticized the possibility of prosecuting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for hosting an immigration rights webinar. He stated:
“Such a prosecution would be an assault on free speech rights.”
Turley acknowledged that while Ocasio-Cortez has not always supported free speech, there is a need for greater defense of the First Amendment.
Last week, Ocasio-Cortez streamed a live session on her Facebook page aimed at educating individuals about their rights when interacting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
After the event, Border Czar Tom Homan expressed concerns on Fox News regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s actions:
“Is that impeding our law enforcement efforts? If so, what are we going to do about it? Is she crossing the line?”
Homan revealed he was consulting with the Department of Justice to determine if Ocasio-Cortez's actions were obstructing ICE operations.
In response to Homan's remarks, Ocasio-Cortez took to Bluesky to mock his statement:
“‘MaYbe shE’s goiNg to be in TroUble nOw.’ Maybe he can learn to read. The Constitution would be a good place to start.”
